Seems light, but I don't know how to bridge the difference. The Astros don't really have an exciting System to trade with. If the Rays do opt to trade Yandy to the Astros, I'd like Brito to be part of the return package over either of the pitchers you have in this trade proposal. He's young, but seems to have the better tools.

I think Diaz is being overvalued on here a bit, it's not a perfect trade but there's so many 1-2 years contract type 1B on the market this year that would be cheaper than Yandy that Houston could easily pass and sign one of them, I think Melton and Matthew would be off the table, I wanted to Dezenzo or Whitcomb for LF but I don't think they would trade them with Bregmen possibly leaving, Cole is too similiar to J Lowe and Baez is only 20 with good power potential that with a better work ethic could really progress, Knorr is 6'5", 245 lbs with 4 average or better pitches, think about what TB could do with that, Tredwell is 6'8", 245 lbs with 55 FB and SL and average curve and TB can work with his change up, TB targets the coal that they can turn into a diamond lol

Who else is available at the Diaz/Alonso level for 1B?

Christian Walker is a free agent. He'll be in the $16M-$18Mish AAV range.

Ok. He's in the same league as Alonso and Diaz. That only makes 3 though.

No disrespect to Diaz but he isn't at the level of Alonzo and Walker, he had a great outlier career year in 2023 and he regressed back to his normal in '24, which is good but not that special and while it's not breaking the bank money it's still a good amount, they could sign guys like Goldenschmidt to a 1 yr prove it deal, cause of age they could get Carlos Santana on a 1 yr deal and he had a good season, there's other avenues to like signing Moncada and moving him to 1B so they have lots of options plus other 1B will be available like Vaughn too.

Yeah, I’m in total disagreement with you. Yandy is hitting 122 wRC+ this year (136 wRC+ since the end of April) and has 2 fWAR. Alonso is hitting 125 wRC+ and has 2.3 fWAR. That’s a standard year for Alonso and a down year for Yandy. To say they aren’t in the same class ignores reality. Yandy has actually been better than Alonso the past 4 years. Alonso just has a cool nickname, plays in a big market and hits more HRs. I’ll take Yandy for 40% salary every day of the week though. Walker is the more complete player, with a bat averaging around 120 wRC+ the past 3 years and above average fielding. I don’t think he has the potential to hit 130-140 wRC+ though, which will depress his salary compared to Alonso (but he will still make more on the open market than Diaz will under his contract). It’s a much closer call between Diaz and Walker in my opinion as to who the better option is next year, but again, they are in the same class.
