In all my years of following the Cubs, I have never seen them lose so many winnable games in the late innings. If they had had a reliable closer, they could easily be in first place in the NL Central, instead of facing another year of elimination, imho. Here is a trade involving former Cubs pitchers who have been RELEASED in the past few years. Instead of giving these players the chance to prove themselves, Chicago continues to sign duds like Hector Neris and Drew Smyly, who made over $20 million this year, for their bullpen. Stupid Jed Hoyer doesn't believe in going after quality relievers. He thinks they are unpredictable, which may be true in some cases. However, there are closers who have been consistently good over long periods of time, i.e., Emmanuel Clase and Kenley Jansen, not to mention ex-Cubs Lee Smith and Bruce Sutter. Jed, GET A CLOSER!
