15I like the return, especially Horvath, but you have to imagine the rays could have gotten more value? Eflin's peripherals are some of the best of his career.
The Rays aren't even having a fucking auction. These are some bullshit returns for 3 a WAR OF and the guy who finished 5th in CY voting in 2023. This is just taking the stuff to the street and putting a curb alert on craigslist. Sternberg trying to tank to move the team to Miami? I need to get out my semi-annual Stu Sternberg in a bikini pic to motivate the team?
Where is the cash? The Rays are covering Eflin’s $1MM trade bonus but the O’s are otherwise absorbing the deal, per Jon Heyman of The New York Post and Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun, both on X. Shouldn’t it be 18.4 for 11.7?
The numbers you're quoting are excess value, not moneys owed.
Hmmm……the very first line from mlbtr By Darragh McDonald | July 26, 2024 at 5:15pm CDT reads; - The Orioles have acquired right-hander Zach Eflin and cash considerations from the Rays in exchange for three prospects, per announcements from both clubs. - That (along with the other report) makes me think it’s $1m in cash is going to the Orioles.
Who are you correcting? MLBTR? Wrong website Mainiac. Eflin gets a bonus if he's traded. The Rays paid it. The FV of Eflin was not effected.
I’m not trying to correct anyone, I just don’t think the $1m is accounted for, if it’s a bonus paid by the Rays shouldn’t it be added to his salary making it a 16.4 for 11.7 deal.
10-4
I agree with Shaq. Feels like a desperation move by Rays. Does not bode well for Taillon, if this deal is reflective of market.
I've been disappointed by the two Rays trades so far, but at least the Aroz trade resulted in good players coming over, even if I felt the total value was a bit light. The Eflin trade might provide back of the roster filler if everything goes right. Pretty surprising.... and disappointing.
It's kind of hard to criticize their returns when they are routinely stacking their farm with quality prospects.
No they don't. They have traded for underutilized young MLB talent, and are excellent at that. Glasnow, Pepiot, Siri, Arozarina, Paredes, Nick Anderson, Yandy, Rohrtvedt, Meadows, etc. That list is extremely long. I can't think of a non-debuted prospect that they've traded for that has become anything of value for them since probably Adames, whom they traded for over a decade ago. Since then, an entire decade, it's been failed prospect evaluation over and over, (including the ones they've traded away like future all stars Cronenworth and Cristopher Sanchez). I guess that's why they are seeking out 3 prospects for 1 Major leaguer deals, because they can't evaluate prospects for shit. I expected MLB talent, not 4 years away talent.
I think it’s because no teams really wanted to take his contract.
Agree. I also think teams knew the Rays were desperate to get his contract off their books for next year and Tampa front office caved at this offer rather than wait it out and get less next week.
I feel like thr Rays have their own internal rankings since national media wise, they for sure could have gotten more... Aiden Smith is a legit pickup... This bunch, I am not sure since I don't know them as well...
