2On paper this probably helps Cleveland in 24, so it's not a bad deal... Problem is Assad really isn't all that good. I think Cleveland would be aiming higher than Assad...
Sport Coach, If Assad is no good, I guess neither is Bibee nor Lively, who have a lower WAR on the season, per MLB.com. Assad's ERA got blown up by the Cubs rotten BP, who seem to allow every inherited runner to score, but it's still a respectable 3.27 on the season and 3.14 lifetime. He has been one of the best starters since last year's All-Star game. This is one of the worst trade proposals I've ever seen from a CUBS POV. Basically, Cleveland dumps Straw and his contract on the Cubs in return for Belli, who wins the WS for the Guardians, then goes FA. So, future salary isn't even a consideration. None of the other Cleveland players would make the Cubs Top 10 Prospect list. Plus, the Cubs are loaded with minor league infielders, so they would have no interest in Watson.
