2Dodgers will need to decide in the next few weeks how "all-in" they are on the 2024 season. Adding Eflin and Aroz would solve a lot of their problems, and because they both are controlled beyond 2024, help in future years too. This trade appears to be an overpay, but the Dodgers know that Aroz has been hitting 131 wRC+ since May 1st (in line with his career norms), has been even better in the playoffs, and would be a marketing dynamo in SoCal. They split the difference with the Rays between his preseason trade value (around $33MM) and his current trade value, opting to basically ignore his slow start to the season. Eflin isn't playing as well as he did last year, when he received Cy Young votes, but he's on pace for a 2.9 fWAR season (roughly equivalent to the season G.Stone is having). In return for Aroz and Eflin, the Dodgers part with 3 quality prospects, one in the infield, outfield and a pitcher. It's costly, but the Dodgers' Farm can bear it and that's the price at the Deadline.
After giving this trade more thought, I think swapping out the far off E.Quintero for M.Vargas makes more sense for both clubs. This way, the Dodgers are giving up a MLB ready COF (or 1B/DH) for Aroz and a MLB ready pitcher (Ryan) for Eflin. The cost for going from prospects to proven major leaguers is the far off J.Vargas (who has tons of upside potential). Revised trade - https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/170779
