3Minor overpay now, but as the season progresses and Milwaukee falls out of the race Adames’ value will start to dwindle. In theory, Ritchie gets closer to pitching again if rehab goes well. These values will line up well around the All-Star break.
Brewers instantly refuse this horrible, under value trade. Ritchie won't even pitch until 2025 and is too far away to be of any help any time soon, if ever. Brewers would be infinitely better off waiting until the trade deadline or just taking the comp. pick.
I agree that this is not a good trade for the Brewers. This value for JR Ritchie's too big much a leap of faith for me. I prefer pitchers who have college-level experience. I'm curious to know how much COVID-19 restrictions interrupted the regular scouting that impacted the 2022 draft and the development opportunities for these young athletes. This site's assigned more value to JR Ritchie than Owen Murphy. I don't agree with it. The Braves drafted both of these guys in 2022. They're both pitchers, both out of high school and Murphy was picked ahead of Ritchie. In 2023, Murphy's played, and it was a bit high on getting taken yard, that was only in the middle of the season. The numbers here don't tell the whole story. Ritchie's good prospect but he's missed a compounded amount of development time. I'm not into trading for him at this value and certainly not about to be parting with a guy like Willy Adames if Adames is hot in the first half of '24.
