13I don't see Cleveland liking Pereira's extremely high strike out rate. Cleveland passes on this.
Cleveland doesn't give a single damn about K rate if the hitter is productive. It so happens that Pereira isn't so....
“Hasn’t been” is more accurate than “isn’t” for a 22 year old who’s barely played on the majors.
None of the Cleveland fans believe the FO will be interested in Pereira, so we aren't trading for him unless it's an extreme underpay... Aka Bieber nor Brennan will be available for him... Plus with the fact Cleveland traded Morris for Florial, I believe in real life, Cleveland said no to Pereira's likely asking price...
Flaw # 1 in your argument is assuming you can speak for all Cleveland fans but I’ll leave you with your hubris.
For me Schmitz it's the fact that there are already more than enough unproven OFers with potential on the roster. They don't need to muddy the waters further and Pereira just isn't that interesting to be honest. If Cleveland trades for another OFer it's going to be for someone like Jones not Pereira. Mind you, I don't think a trade for Jones is going to happen or he'd be in the White Sox organization now. Just using him as an example.
Becuase the return isn’t Juan Soto? You do realize it’d be for 1 year of Bieber right?
Cleveland likely won't trade Bieber for a guy of Pereria's profile is the point. They have a specific return right now and he doesn't fit that. They will let Bieber walk IF they don't get the return they want. Cleveland never changes their prices of players... Also Brennan, I don't believe will be dealt especially at his value. They believe he will have a strong 24, especially since he was a rookie last season...
I think that is true now that Gavin Williams has shown some potential for injury this year. Prior to that news, though, I think Cleveland may have been more inclined to jump on the chance to catch the Yankees in desperation and get some long term value for Bieber (beyond the comp pick) that teams may not have offered this winter.
Yes, I am very aware about Bieber since I have followed the Guardians for 58 years. Cleveland has been a high contact, low strike out team. All teams, including Cleveland, will be concerned about Pereira's extremely high strike out rate in the minors and his time in MLB.
Bieber's been on the team for 58 years??
Cleveland had certain types of hitters they prefer IF they have to pay for them and Pereira isn't a type of player Cleveland would pay for... Bieber isn't being traded unless they get exactly what they want and Pereira isn't they guy. Plus they kept Brennan over Benson... They aren't going to trade a guy they gambled on after his rookie season...
Have you been paying any attention to their deliberate efforts to get away from that high contact, low strike out mantra because it offers nothing without quality of contact. This is public information and just about every person in Cleveland's personnel has touched on it. They're looking for quality of contact and don't give a damn about low strike out or high contact rates. Clearly a high contact rate along with quality of contact is optimal, but there are only a few in the league that can do that and they're likely HOFers. That high contact, low strike out stuff died in the 70's.
