I would think the Brewers would have to take this deal to get Whisenhunt. Davis is a rental, but he fills in at 3B while Ortiz goes to SS.

I agree with you. Davis's bat would replace Adames's bat in the lineup. Brewers would probably use caution determining where to play Davis. As you said, 3B would probably be his main spot but his defense is still suspect and I'd guess Davis would also rotate in the DH spot.
