8Cleveland needs an MLB ready bat in any Clase trade.
Dodgers immediately say no.
Sheehan heading a package for Clase is awesome. It's just the rest of the package that is a little uninspiring. Don't get me wrong, it's a good offer, but why can't it just be Sheehan and Vargas or Pages as opposed to a bunch of young prospects? Remember, Cleveland is fully expecting to have a deep playoff run starting in 2025 and not focused on loading up the lower minors at this time.
I second this... Cleveland needs 3 quality prospects over an army of prospects right now... Now, if we went Shaheen, Vargas plus like 2-3 mid-tier guys, then yeah, Cleveland would definitely at least consider it...
I love ya SC, but Cleveland isn't getting Sheehan, Vargas and 2-3 prospects for Clase. That's just not realistic IMO. Getting Sheehan and Vargas likely makes them better even with the loss of Clase.
That's why I don't believe Clase will be traded, especially now since the spring training has started... They aren't going to take a penny less than what they want and they want probably more than anyone could even think about paying...
I get the need for a bat, but like the draft, you sometimes just want the best players, with positions being secondary. This trade brings in a potential TOR pitcher in Sheehan, which helps immediately, with Frasso soon to follow. The other guys are top flight prospects. Adding those players to what will likely be a haul in the draft pushes the farm into top 5 territory. Yes, this may not help on the offensive side in 2024, but the long term benefits are immense. I’m 100% in on this, with the only problem being the Dodgers would never accept this offer. Cleveland would almost certainly say yes immediately.
Frasso has a torn labrum and had surgery in November and is expected to miss most or all of 2024 so he is not soon to follow. That is a serious injury to come back from. I get the need for pitching, and I expect a pitcher to be in any Clase trade, but at some point, we need to focus on adding offense as well. Why can't we add both?
