He makes 6 million. For a pitcher of quality that's minimal
I’m talking the $65MM trade cost. If they ever were to trade that much trade value for one player (and they probably wouldn’t), it wouldn’t be for a pitcher who could blow out an elbow, miss 2 years and only be partly back performance-wise in year 3 when his contract runs out (ie: they wouldn’t be able to trade him for anything). Lots of teams might be interested in trading for a very good, low salary starting pitcher, but the Rays stay good by not investing a ton of trade value in any one player. They sell guys like Luzardo, they don’t buy them.
