15I expect Emmanuel Clase to be a Guardian in 2024 unless overwhelmed. From what I have read, Cleveland is looking for MLB ready offensive help and that is lacking here.
From a different Cleveland perspective, I like this deal. After graduating a good chunk of their prospects last year, their system could use an injection of high end talent. Good trade, thanks for posting.
from the same Cleveland perspective.. this is a good deal.. or a good start to a deal.. The value difference is pretty large.. It would make sense to add more value onto the Cleveland side of the ledger.. as in Emerson Hancock and/or Cole Phillips.. Perhaps?
Value wise maybe makes sense. But given the big holes in the rest of the Mariners line up... why would they use their prospect capital to add a third elite closer to the roster?
What holes exactly? Have you not been keeping up with the Mariners offseason? They are pretty balanced 1-9 and have the best bench they have had in a really long time and depth in the minors for injury concerns.
As a Mariners fan this is insane overkill for the bullpen. We already have 3 elite arms in Munoz, Brash and Santos and are know for find others and either honing in their control or tweaking their repertoire to make them go from waiver wire trash to solid contributor. This would be a waste of Seattle’s prospect talent which should either be the internal augment to the lineup this year and next or used to get a great bat like Randy Arrozarena.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm certain that I saw/read/heard that the Mariners were looking for a LHH OFer with good bat to ball skills. I agree with anyone suggesting that the Mariners do not need Clase and that he would be a bit of an overkill for them. Kwan would be an excellent fit at the top of Seattle's lineup. IMO that's where any trade talks between these 2 teams should begin.
It is the highest floor team they've had in a long while but... 3B is a gamble, LF is high upside platoon, RF is made of glass and projected for less than average production, no real backup if SS gets hurt, questionable backup if C is hurt.
I don’t think the Guardians would be the ones saying no to this deal if it was offered to them. While I agree they would prefer a major league ready player for Clase what contender has that to give up?
Cleveland's FO would for sure say no to this deal... One it's not close to 51 BTV and two... They will not trade Clase without getting a middle of the order type of bat in a sense, for 24... Now if you had these prospects plus a couple good veterans then Cleveland would think on it...
What you have to remember, Kybowren, is that Cleveland does not have to trade Clase unless they get exactly what they want. He is young and affordable.
He is a reliever and those guys are rarely going to get you the kind of return you are talking about. When was the last time a reliever got someone a major league ready middle of the lineup hitter with multiple control years left? Maybe you could get Randy Arozerena from the Rays but not sure they are interested in a bullpen arm.
Clase is controlled for 5 years for $34.2M. Josh Hader just got 5 for $95M. Rarely is there a young all star closer on that great of salary. Again, Cleveland has no reason to give him away.
Yeah BS. What have closers of Clase's level brought in recently?
They would say no immediately because the return is significantly under value. Where do you people come from? You want Clase then take the difference you have in this shitty deal and add it to Clase's value. If you think that's too much then you're probably right, but Cleveland has no need to rid themselves of the inexpensive, controlled for years elite closer.
