9Jose Ramirez has a no trade clause which he would not wave. Regardless, Cleveland would say no thank you. It makes no sense for them to trade Ramirez and the trade package does little to meet their needs.
Certainly would get the Guardians F/O asking some questions. A lot of talent going their way. They might even ask Ramirez about waving his clause. He might say no. But he might not, he may want to play with JRod and Castillo
One thing to add…Ramirez took a huge hometown discount to stay in Cleveland, which no one ever does. Out of respect for that I have never done a mock trade with him. Now with that being said, if he did want to move on (maybe doesn’t like Francona being gone, whatever) then this package would get my attention. Although as good as it is it would have to be a bigger overpay. The GM that trades Ramirez will get run out of town quickly, so it has to be quite overwhelming.
Fans always think that they have the power to run guys out of town for moves like this but ultimately it doesn’t usually happen like this and if the deal works out then the GM is praised years later for making a shrewd baseball move.
Cleveland does not need more middle infielders. They need to sort through the overload that they already have. Cleveland already has a young catcher that they really like. Outfield is Cleveland's biggest weakness, and this does not address that need on their MLB club. Regardless, Jose Ramirez has the no trade clause, and Cleveland has no reason to trade him.
I always hear this from Cleveland fans yet I don’t see anyone in your middle infield group that is actually producing. Who is the future SS there. Also move Ford to the OF if you need to he is athletic enough to do that. Maybe this doesn’t get the deal over the finish line but it probably is enough to peak interest and see how willing Ramirez might be to waiving his no trade clause. Also I would point out that no trade clauses can be bought out in contracts so even if he didn’t want to waive it a team could pay extra to buy out the no trade clause.
Ramirez took millions of dollars less to get that no trade clause so he could stay where he was comfortable in Cleveland. How do you plan to get him to change his money if money won't do it? Ramirez will be a Guardian for a long time. Cleveland has prospects like Bryan Rocchio, Juan Brito and others coming that are middle infielders.
They are all basically ready prospects. Extremely talented ones much in the same ilk as Young except they are more proven than he is. The future SS is Arias. If he falters then Rocchio is next in line. If Rocchio falters then you'll likely see Gimenez moved back to SS and either one of Freeman or Brito take over 2B. Then there's Martinez as well who is in AAA. They have Tena too. It seems as if the list is never ending so no, Cleveland does not need another MIFer. I love the idea of Ford and he's an excellent fit for Cleveland's needs. Woo would have to be changed out with Miller for me. Montes is another LHH you want to send to a team full of them. This is all under the assumption that something happened and Ramirez would wave his NT clause which isn't going to happen. His wife has as much say in it as Jose and they've established themselves in the Cleveland area and really like it there. I guess it's fun to theorize, but it's just so very unlikely as to be wasting time discussing the idea.
You don't understand, JRam purposely stayed in Cleveland and signed a contract to stay in Cleveland! He is not going anywhere in the next 3-4 years for sure! I wouldn't be surprised if he retires as a Guardian
