Rays say no. They don’t have the 40 man space for this kind of trade, and they don’t want to trade 2 potential TOR starters (assuming they both come back from TJS strong). Elder and AJSS have potential too, just not as high as Baz and McClanny. The rest of the trade package is just a bunch of mystery specials. There could be a viable starter in the bunch, but probably not.

It's a move from the Ray's perspective of now vs the future. Assuming both Baz and McClanahan return to form from TJ, with Baz being further along, then they likely have a higher upside. But, McClanahan for sure and maybe Baz are unlikely to contribute much this year all while burning more service time. Elder is plug and play now. His ceiling is a #3 but more likely a routine 4 or 5. Shawver had starts in MLB last year and is near ready if not ready out of ST. Dodd also had starts, is LHP, but is likely a ceiling 4 or 5 or a long relief type. Anderson returning from TJ and should be ready out of ST and has experience and success as a SP at MLB as is Ynoa. The Braves look at this as a play for upside with an understanding that you're paying one, if not both, not to pitch for a while and have no real assurance that either will ever return to form.

Yeah, I get the logic on both sides. I just don't think there's any chance the Rays trade 2 potential TOR pitchers for a collection of guys with #3 or below potential. Baz will be kept down long enough this season so the Rays can pick up another year of service time with him, which means that the Rays will have 3 years of McClanny and 4 years of Baz remaining after this season. The Rays aren't going anywhere this season in all likelihood, but next season is a different story. The Rays are always looking big picture, and this trade would be short sighted. Just my opinion of course.

Baz is pretty much ready to go so he'll be pitching early this year, McClanahan is a former Allstar game starter going into his first arbitration, it would make no sense to trade them in the same package when they both would bring back a big package, McClanahan alone would bring back 3-4 top 10 prospects so this trade just wouldn't make sense for the Rays IMO.

I'm willing to gift you any MLB jersey under $200.00 USD of any current Braves player of your choice if Ian Anderson is ready to be a starting pitcher in MLB when Spring Training camp ends. I predict he'll maybe be back to the Majors by July if all's going well for him and the Braves.
