3Red Sox send southern CA native and Long Beach State alum to San Diego for Rhode Island native and BC alum King. Duran has 5 years of control and is pre-arb and fills San Diego’s need for lefty bats and outfielders. King is into his arb years and has two years of control left. While effective and a key part of the Soto trade, King’s track record is still based only on 245 IP total over the last 3 seasons. Duran’s success was largely from last by year. His defense is borderline and his hitting was bolstered by a .381 BABIP. But he at least learned to weaponize his speed, particularly on any ball not hit directly at an outfielder.
For me, I’d Keep the bat over the arm, 👎. Plus he’s 2 years younger and with 5 years of control vs 2. If the Padres want Duran it starts with Snelling, otherwise……………telephone click.
As a Padre fan, I must say, I like this from a Padres side.
