4AZ fans seem to hate the thought of trading Gallen. I don’t know why. A Boras client and probably home in 2 years.

I think the Diamondbacks would rather keep the 2yrs of Gallen and then tag him with a QO if it came to that. He’s going to be a free agent at age 30, I wonder what a free agent contract looks like for him 2 years from now, ($35 per for 8 years with 2 club options, and maybe with an opt out after year 2 and year 4 and 6?). The Diamondbacks should probably be trying to get an extension done with him now, I wonder what that would look like as well. Buy out his last 2 arbitration years and add on 8 years and make it a 10 year deal worth $350m? Would that get him locked up before his ‘24 arbitration hearing?
I also think clearing Gallen gives them a chance of keeping Kelly for as long as he is pitching well.
