I think the Rays should definitely keep Arozarena and the Mariners definitely make this trade for him.

This would be a haul for Randy by the Rays. Two Top 100 prospects (with Harry Ford being arguably Top 25) and a former 6th overall pick pitcher who is ready to contribute now, even though injuries have lowered his shine/top-end potential. Given that the Mariner's now have Raley/Haniger locked into one corner, I can't see this trade happening, unless they could include Canzone in place of Gabby. Otherwise, the M's seem okay with letting Canzone, Marlowe and DeLoach each have a shot to be the LF of the future. If, however, the Rays aren't in the mix come late June and no-one from that LF mix has stepped up for the M's, then I could see both teams agreeing for this type of trade. On the other hand, if the Mariner's are willing to part with this much prospect talent, I think it would make more sense to go after Luis Arraez which addresses their 2B need.

I know this looks like a haul and a great trade for the Rays, but it's also not something the Rays are likely to accept for one of their star players. Rays typically like to receive one or more AAA/MLB guys in their big trades. Someone who has a little experience in the Bigs and is ready to contribute immediately (or almost immediately). Ford and Gonzalez are both 2-3 years away and Hancock is struggling just to get his career on track and is probably just a reliever going forward. Personally, I would love to see the Rays acquire Ford. They have had a gaping hole at catcher for most of their existence that Ford could hopefully plug. Gonzalez seems a bit overrated in my opinion, and could easily be replaced in this proposal (along with Hancock). Not that any of this matters of course. The Rays appear intent on holding on to Aroz this year. Otherwise they would have traded him and not Raley a week ago.

Agree with all this. I think we're too close to Spring Training for a surprise trade. And this return is just scraps that are unimportant to the 2024 and 2025 Mariners. If they get Randy, they're going to feel the burn to the MLB team. Brash or Woo, and I would really push for Lazaro Montez to be included.

At this juncture, I don’t see the M’s taking on another outfielder. In addition, I don’t think they’ll take on the add’l payroll either. If they were going land Arozarena it would have happened instead of Raley. While I think Raley is a good pick up for the M’s, there had been rumors at one point that the M’s were looking at a bigger trade involving both Paredes & Arozarena. Not sure how far that got but as an M’s fan, I would have been thrilled with that and would have happily given up one of their key young arms.

Arozarena would be a big fish to dangle at the deadline, see how the season plays out…..

Well, he did outhit Randy last year, put up an extra 1.0 fWAR, has an extra year of control and makes about $5MM less in 2024 salary.
