Mariners cutting $ while also getting big league help. Get a set closer, #2 outfielder, RHH bench bat, and someone who can hold over the rotation until Robby Ray comes back from injury. Sox get their ace, possibly DFA Moore, and have an additional lefty in the pen. Sox potentially send money to enhance deal.

This is terrible bad deal for the Mariners. Castillo is an Ace with an incredibly friendly deal that pays $22.75M annually for the next 4 years before a 5th year vesting option/TJS option year. Even though the Mariner's have limited budget space, replacing Castillo, Moore and Speier for Duran, Jansen, Winckowski and Dalbec would only actually give them an additional ~$8M to spend while having severally weakened their pitching staff and adding another right handed reliver who would slot in as their third or fourth option out of the pen behind at least Brash and Munoz (and maybe even Topa), while also removing their best lefty option in Speier. Removing Jansen and Speier from the deal would make it slightly better as it would clear more space to actually go and sign a Castillo replacement like Snell or Montgomery, but if they are going to give out a big contract it'd make more sense to just sign Bellinger and keep Castillo. I'm also not sold on Duran fitting the Mariners. His BABIP was exceptionally lucky, so he is due for serious regression. I'd expect him to end up a ~ .270/.320/.410 hitter which is solid if he's in center, but unexceptional in a corner outfield role (especially because he isn't a plus outfielder) which is what he'd slot into with the Mariners. Also, why would the Mariner's want to waste a 40-man spot on Dalbec? He's been terrible and we'd be better off looking to re-sign Mike Ford for depth or relying on Tyler Locklear to take a step forward this year in the event we need an extra 1B option.
