5I'm not a fan of Marlowe to the Rays. For one, he's a lefty. If the Rays trade Aroz, their starting COFs will be L.Raley and J.Lowe, both lefties, and their top AAA outfield prospect is K.Misner, also a lefty. For another, Marlowe doesn't appear to have the tools you want in a 4th outfielder. MLB gives him 45 hit/power grades, along with 45 grades for arm strength and fielding. Fangraphs largely agrees with those grades. A good 4th outfielder should be an above average defender and/or have good platoon splits. Marlowe would appear to not be that type of player. Of course, he also had a good SSS in the Majors last year, with positive fielding grades from all defensive stats, including an insane (and totally unbelievable) 7 DRS in 183 innings in LF. That notwithstanding, I'd still shy away from Marlowe if I'm the Rays. As for this trade overall, I'd prefer Woo over Brash. Woo is cheaper and comes with an extra year of control, which allows for a better secondary piece.
could easily swap out marlowe for haggerty, as far as brash goes he was a starter through his minor league career and TB could easily stretch him out to be a starter. I don't see the mariners giving up woo or miller for an outfielder at this point, although im not saying randy A shouldn't fetch a pitcher of that caliber in a trade. I think the mariners are more apt to target a player like kepler or lane thomas, which is sad, as a mariners fan they have a chance to win right now and seem to be squandering it away.
actually the mariners do have a plethora of infield prospect, i like celestein ceiling and really wouldn't want to see him traded but maybe a tai peete would work, they also have emerson and young which i think would be too much to include with brash but they also have a tyler locklear who is a little closer to mlb ready. so i think brash and peete or locklear would or could be a beneficial trade for both teams, i think after the garver signing the mariners have about 12-15 million left to spend this year so with Randy A's salary approx 10m i believe that would leave them about 3 or 4 million for minor upgrades or tinkering
Yeah, that could work. Peete doesn't thrill me personally, but I know the Rays Front Office was allegedly high on him at draft time.
Yeah, I'm not following the Mariners' plan this offseason either. Seemed like cutting salary was the plan, then they went out and spent 1/3 of their savings on an inconsistent bat. Maybe Garver's bat will stay hot if he's not asked to catch, but his track record suggests a down year is coming in 2024. I'm a Rays' homer, but trading for H.Ramirez would have been the direction I'd have gone over signing Garver. As for this trade, the Rays don't need an outfielder in the deal to make it work, and Haggerty would be a worse inclusion because of his higher salary and limited control. The Rays are set with a top 4 outfield of Siri, Raley, Lowe, and DeLuca, with several young minor leaguers looking for playing time and H.Ramirez technically a COF. Ultimately, it's not the Rays style to trade top trade chips for just 1-2 players, but if they were to trade Aroz for just 2 players, I'd assume the 2nd chip would be considerable (someone like Celesten), even if that required a 2nd piece from the Rays.
