Brewers pick up Singer to lock down the rotation for this season and allow for a Burnes or Woodruff trade next off season. They take on a bit of money with Dozier and either hope for him to fill the Cutch role from last year or just cut him. Royals get a solid OF prospect in Frelick, who seems to be built for their park. Houser fills some IP's this year to give the pipeline of pitchers in their system more time to develop. Gray is a lotto ticket throw in.

This amounts to the Brewers paying the Royals $18M, plus their #2 (top 100 MLB) prospect, and a decent SP for Singer. The Brewers might do this only after they traded Burnes or Woodruff. If neither of those guys is traded they would refuse.

Frelick is an untouchable prospect.

For all those Brewer fans that say let's add to the team now while we still have Burnes and Woodruff for our chance at the World Series, this trade is a good start. Milwaukee is adding a 4.5 WAR pitcher to an already good starting rotation. Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Singer, and Lauer and Ashby as a 5th and 6th starter should get you in the hunt. Yes, Dozier is the cost to obtain Singer. If Dozier doesn't fit in, he maybe still could be traded. If not, he does provide a right-handed bat at 1B, 3B, and the OF. If cost is still an issue, then trading Wong and/or Renfroe could solve that problem. Hopefully such a trade would add to the chance of improving the team and not just cost cutting. Frelick is a top 100 prospect. So was Singer, but Singer has already gotten his major league experience and fulfilled his potential as a very good middle of the order pitcher. He still might even get better but 4.5 WAR is pretty good. He still has 4 years of control. Frelick will maybe help the Brewers in 2023, or maybe not till 2024. When will he reach a 4.5 WAR? Maybe soon, maybe never. The point I'm trying to make is with Singer the future is now and for those who want to get to the World Series sooner than later, this is a good start.
