3With the news Scherzer will be out for a good portion of 2024, this trade could be a way to help Texas rebuild their rotation by acquiring Bieber. Clase is a major addition to an iffy bullpen and Naylor is a clear upgrade at 1B over Lowe. Lowe can now be dealt to fix other very minor remaining issues. This trade gives Texas everything it needs to repeat. Langford is an incredible player, but the Rangers won without him and should see improvement in 2024 in their young players plus the talent now coming from Cleveland. Not that it’s forgotten, but Texas was only a couple of games from not making the playoffs. Despite all the other high profile moves other teams are making this trade makes Texas the clear favorite to repeat in 2024. For Cleveland the return is obvious, but losing 3 key players is rough. 2024 likely will not be a winning year, but Cleveland can regroup in 2025, plugging Langford into a lineup that will soon include Manzardo, DeLauter, and the #1 pick (hopefully a hitter). It’s a risk those players can be potential all-stars, but worth the gamble. Bradford needs to be included to help a 2024 rotation that is very young and not very deep. Hopefully a good trade for both teams.
Your logic makes a lot of sense here. I just have a hard time seeing Texas trading Langford. With their high payroll, they need Carter, Jung, and Langford to fill 1/3 of their lineup.
Probably right, but I think Ranger fans are rightfully in a panic over the rotation. This is about as good an offer as they will see, and it targets areas of need. Clase is actually the main piece, improving their bullpen considerably, and I see Naylor as a pretty big upgrade over Lowe. Naylor is really good and getting better. He and Lowe can rotate DH/1B or Lowe can also now be dealt, which essentially nets Texas Bieber, Clase, Naylor, AND whatever they can get for Lowe. Thanks for your comment.
