2I know it takes away the Sox' 3B of the future, but it gives them a 2B and Montgomery seems likely to have to shift to 3B anyway. If they get a SS/3B from trading Cease, they could have a talented IF by 2025. Meanwhile, it's more of a lateral move financially for the Rays, but they get a pitcher with arguably a higher ceiling than Glasnow for much cheaper.
Rays aren’t going to be interested in this trade. For one, 2 of the Rays top 3 prospects are 3B, and their 1st rounder last year was a 3B. So I don’t think Ramos will interest them much. As for Cease, the Rays don’t trade for players like him (ie: someone with just 1-2 years of control and who costs more than $20MM).
