I would hate to see Vargas go but this trade makes sense both ways. Dodgers get a young starter with great potential and a higher floor than Grove to help raise the talent in the back end of their rotation. Mariners replace Woo with Grove as depth. While also taking on a young bat in Vargas, who can rotate in spots the Mariners don't have a set starter (DH, 2B, LF, and potentially 3B).
