Hoo boy. Apparently, the Rays might be shopping Arozarena. As a die-hard Guardians fan, Randy is near the top, if not at the pinnacle, on the list of guys I want them to acquire. He'd be a perfect fit. So naturally, here's a trade proposal! When making this, my mind first went to the trades between these two teams that ended horribly for Cleveland. Yandy Diaz, Junior Caminero, etc. However, in general, there have been several trades made between these teams in the past few seasons (Civale for Manzardo most recently), giving the impression that they like to do business with each other, something that shouldn't be taken for granted. From the Guardians' perspective: Randy is the man. Perfect fit, great character, he'll sell some tickets, yada yada. I don't need to explain why he'd work here. I do need to explain the package they'd be giving up here. The first name that pops out is Daniel Espino. As recently as last year he was a top 20 prospect in baseball, but he's had severe trouble staying healthy, something that most likely won't go away. While it feels really dangerous sending Espino to Tampa, where they could "fix" him and turn him into the ace everyone here wants him to be, I personally think the proven Arozarena is worth what Espino could become, especially since Espino's path is so murky right now. Moving Brennan could be a little irksome, losing a young outfield bat that could have a starting role in the outfield still, but I feel that the addition of Randy would mitigate the need for Brennan. Lastly, Ingle is a promising young catcher in an organization that suddenly has several promising young catchers (Naylor, Velazquez, Huff). From the Rays' perspective: Moving Randy now means they need to capitalize on his value and get major league ready guys. Of this return, only Brennan fits that mold, something that, as I'm typing, I realize severely diminishes the value of this trade. Brennan/Margot/Raley could fill Arozarena's spot, but they'd lose the production there. So while the current value they'd most likely require to move Arozarena isn't present, the appeal of Espino could prove to make it all worthwhile. To me, the potential future stardom of Espino combined with the Rays' track record of turning pitchers into studs makes this worth it, but then again, I'm a Guardians fan! Ingle would be a nice piece here to develop as a catcher in their system, potentially being that guy behind the dish for them eventually. Perhaps including a guy like Hunter Gaddis, Xzavion Curry, Cody Morris, or Joey Cantillo could tip the scales more, giving Tampa a young, controllable pitcher who would contribute immediately. Thoughts?
