if the rays were gonna pay 9m of it they would just keep margot
But Margot has injury problems and Gil and Effross could help with the bullpen and the Yankees need outfielders
This trade intrigues me. If Effross is healthy, he’s a big time addition to the Rays. Is he healthy though? I think he was shut down last year because of elbow tightness. Rays have enough TJS pitchers already, so I’d be against trading for him on that basis alone. Then there is the cash. Rays won’t want to buy a player, which is what the cash represents in this deal (buying Effross), no matter how you spin it. If Effross is in the deal, then a more valuable player from the Rays will need to replace Ramirez. Maybe Basabe? And get rid of Hardman. Rays are drowning in 3B prospects right now.
