3Kyle Freeland was a Top-4 Cy Young candidate last year, this year he spent a lot of time in AAA. What went wrong in such short time? Here the Phillies take a gamble on Freeland hoping he can return to his last year form and make a great duo with Aaron Nola as the frontline starters. The Rockies get the Phils #1RHP prospect and still get good value on a guy that is currently not helping their big league club. I don't know if the Rockies are open to dealing Freeland and i don't know if the Phillies would take a chance on him, but it would be an interestig move by both clubs.
Right. Freeland's value dropped significantly, so the Rockies would certainly be selling low on him. I'm not sure this trade is realistic, though, because I would think the Phils would want a pitcher with more certainty to help them this year. Otherwise, I like the idea.
I was a bit skeptical as well but i saw that Freeland has 3,5 years of control, this move would be for the long term rotation and a bet on Freeland pitching well again out of Colorado and the Phils dont have the assets to trade for a bonafide ace with years of control.
