3The total values might be favorable to the Royals but i'm not sure, The Phillies would get the prized Whit Merrifield and the contract of Danny Duffy(13M.AAV until 2021) and the Royals would get a good batch of prospects. Is this deal realistic? Let me know.
On paper, yes. But in reality, I get the sense that the Royals would rather eat dead money than package it with valuable chips. In other words, if they trade Merrifield, they'd want top-quality prospects back, period. They probably hang onto Duffy until time eats away some of that dead money, then trade him when he's closer to zero value.
I constructed this one knowing it isnt really happening since the Royals really value Whit and eating dead money is not a big issue since they are rebuilding.
