8This one's intriguing. From the A's perspective, Hernandez would certainly solidify 2B and yes, be a good platoon partner for Profar. But they also have Barreto, who's getting an extended look right now -- they want to see if he passes the test first before moving on from him. If he doesn't cut it, and the Phillies do a soft sell, this deal has merit.
Cesar Hernandez is a good 2B, and the A´s have a big hole there with Profar being the starter, but they actually would complement each other really well, Cesar hits RHP better and Profar is a better hitter against LHP, both switch hitters and would be the perfect platoon. The Phillies move on from Hernandez and it gives them the chance to finally settle Scott Kingery into 2B, his natural position. The return isn't incredible but Kaprelian looks like a good potential starter who was off-railed by injuries, and Heim is a defensive Catcher and would provide good depth on the organizaton. I think this one makes sense for both teams, The Phillies can still contend after this and the A´s bolster a weak spot to fuel their playoff push.
Kingery has been logging all the CF starts is Philly. With Herrera suspended indefinitely, who would replace him in CF? The idea of returning Kingery to 2b might have merit, but I think this trade would require a follow-up move from Philly, especially with McCutchen done for the year. Bruce in CF and Williams in LF does create a defensive weakness.
Adam Haseley is their no.3 Prospect, is the future CF, you forgot about him and he's already in the majors.
I did forget about him.
It's ok, he's not a game changer but he is someone the Phillies want to give some playing time.
I could see the Phils doing this if they continue to fall in the standings and do a soft sell off for next year if they assume McCutchen will be back at full strength.
I have a feeling we'll do this as well, selling to the point where you can still fight for a wildcard spot.
