I like the fact that the Padres are paying the entire contracts of each player they're moving, plus an additional $36M. Definitely something Preller would do. The Mariners rid themselves of an estimated ~$0.5B off their future books and basically get a bunch of aging superstars for free with a side of $36M. They'd be able to go hog-wild in the next two/three free agency cycles without having to think about the luxury tax. Meanwhile, the Padres get a lot younger and better- all it will cost them is adding an additional ~$0.5B to the books and paying an average of $90M/year to another franchise for the next decade. It is an outrageous trade, but not necessarily a lob-sided one.
