The idea is based on NY wanting to clear 10 million a year for the next three season off their payroll. They can't send money, as that does not lower their tax hit. So trade a prospect to get a team to take Hicks. The A's seem to be spending money, because MLB wants them to do so, to get their payroll up. Why not add a veteran and get a prospect. They might even be able to flip Hicks, if they eat most of his contract. In effect getting two prospects.

Interesting proposal. I'm curious if the A's would bite on this. A $10M AAV for a guy with Hicks' experience and versatility isn't terrible, especially when it's tied to a solid prospect. But also, Hicks is regularly hurt and had a terrible 2022. He appeared to have no power and moving from Yankees Stadium to Oakland will only make that worse. He looked awful in CF but serviceable in LF. I don't know if the Yankees do this. Pereira is one of the only OF options in the organization that could impact 2023. Unless there's another signing or trade coming, this would leave them with Oswaldo Cabrera as the option in LF since Stanton won't likely see the OF with regularity. Giving up Hicks and attaching a prospect that could fill that void seems like a no. That could change if they sign Conforto or make a trade for a LF. As things sit today, it's a no.
