2Now that the Brewers have William Contreras and Payton Henry they can, begrudgingly, part with Quero. The Rangers have no real catching prospects in their top 30 prospects. It would be prudent for them to have a catcher that can grow with Leiter, Rocker, White and others. Quero is the real deal. Ethan Small gives them some options for MLB ready, controllable, left handed pitching that could either be a starting pitcher or a reliever. Urias provides INF flexibility and a bat with some HR pop that can handle the hot corner in the next few years until the Rangers shell out some cash for their next round of FA's. Taylor can play all of the OF positions and the competitive balance pick affords the Rangers flexibility for the future. The Brewers don't have any 3B talent in their system and Urias, while a versatile player, is not the long term answer. He's going to get too expensive for the Brewers as they look to extend their pitching. The Crew traded Binelas to the Red Sox in the Renfroe/JBJ trade so they need controllable 3B help now. Let's face it, Attanasio won't cough up money for any real talent at the hot corner so the Brewers somewhat overpay here. Jung is still a risk on a number of levels: performance and prior injuries. He is, however, the Rangers #1 prospect, thus the sacrifice. The rest of the Rangers side of the trade beyond Jung are fill ins comprised of a lottery tickets and pitching reclamation projects.
If I were the GM I'd also explore signing Moustakas to provide some 3B depth. He may have a rebound at American Family Field. Either way, the Reds are covering his contract so he's cheap and Brosseau is signed.
