Thought Process: Mariners have a knack for/and finding good to great relievers. Trade from strength in this regard, avoid moving young starters while clearing Gonzales' money off the books from '24 and the Club Option in '25 for Lowe's contract and 2 Club Options in '25 & '26. Allow the Mariners to fill a need at 2nd with a lefty bat, and open up the opportunity to go get an arm or 2 themselves via separate prospect trades with teams out of contention that would not require ML talent swaps.

This trade might work for the Rays if they've determined B.Lowe is broken and/or will never play even 1/2 a season again because of his back. Personally, I think it's much too early to have made either determination yet, so this trade has the Rays selling very low on Lowe and getting back a 5th starter with comparable salary and 2 middle relievers. I don't think the Rays will do this trade.

Thanks for the reply and insight! I think from past roster construction standpoint the Rays do move players at particular points but agree Lowe being moved now is selling low, so probably not a move made, but 2B/Lefty bat are a clear need

You are 100% correct there. Once the Rays decide a player is no longer a fit for their club, they do whatever it takes to move him, even for pennies on the dollar. B.Lowe may be in that category for all I know. I don’t think he is, but he could be.
