I know there's no realistic chance of it happening, but as a White Sox fan who sees a full rebuild is coming (meaning another 4 years of sucking), I don't see the point in keeping Robert. This trade would give them a second top SS prospect, which is never a bad problem to have, their C of the future, and a promising lefty, all in A+ or lower, so they would fit better into the Sox' timeline, especially if they slow-played Merrill a little and then played the service time game to start 2025. For the Padres, yes, they give up 3 of their top 4 prospects, but they don't give up Tatis, Jr., Machado, or Soto. Adding Robert's power and defense to an already dangerous lineup is an over-the-top move for them and he comes with years of control.
