1I can see this without the additional cash being added. Mervis and Wesneski give the Mets more than 10 years of team and cost control. Mervis' swing and high OBP will play well in NY, and Wesneski adds a BOR arm. Alonso would need to sign an extension to make this worthwhile for the Cubs. An extended Alonso and a re-signed Bellinger would set up the middle of the order for years while the Cubs use their current talent to fill the top and bottom of the order.
