4Provides value to the cardinals that can contribute in the next few years in Basabe and Montgomery, as well as a high upside wild card in Mount Vernon. In one trade it fixes a lot of the pitching need this season without hurting the farm too much. It’s a minor overpay because you’re going to have to pay to get pitching this year. Not at the crazy level the Angels did, but I imagine an overpay.

That would mean trading Basebe and Montgomery, 2 of our top 6 prospects, for 3 rentals that aren't very good, Montgomery would be a 5th starter on the team and Flaherty is a bulk option basically a Chironos, at that trade price I'd rather have something better or at least more controllable, they could get all 3 pieces in separate trades for lower level prospects.
We need bulk pitchers. Monty is serviceable and Hicks is elite (look under the hood at the peripherals and also at the top line results the last 2+ months). I got confused when I first saw the notification and thought this was about the other trade - Snell Soto and Hader, not very good. Lol.
Yea but if we need bulk pitchers they could rely on their scouting department and lower prospects to get that done, the guys above you're kinda paying for their name. Look what they've done in the past with guys like Anderson and Rasmussen, there's guys out there for the cost of Misner and Vasquez that TB could get to go 3-4 innings that are controllable, I'd rather see them pick up a guy like SF Beck, make some changes and team him up with Armstrong to try and get 6 innings, next year Basebe could be the 2nd or utility player and TB's Montgomery could be a bulk option, IMO I'd rather see them think outside the box then pay a higher amount just because a guy's is more heard of.
