This is dead on arrival. Milwaukee wants pitching when they trade Burnes, not position players.

Spikes

I think the Brewers would be happy to get these 2 players in a trade with Baltimore. If Ortiz's scouting report is accurate, he has great potential to become a very good MLB player at an infield position. Mountcastle has had 4 consecutive seasons of good hitting with an OPS of over 700 every year. He'd fill the 1B need for Milwaukee. The Brewers can fill their pitching needs by trading from there OF surplus and/or trading Adames. I don't think the Orioles would make this trade unless they are willing to offer Burnes an extension and maybe a wink and a nod from Burnes that he would accept.

Spikes, I couldn't disagree more. I'd say do the exact opposite. Trade from the outfield surplus and Adames for position players. Burnes is the Brewers major trade chip and the most likely to bring back MLB ready pitching. Adames nor Weimer/Mitchell will bring even close to what the Brewers could ask for Burnes. I wouldn't mind trading Burnes plus an outfielder/Adames for even more pitching.

You and Jmont1 have been insistent that if the Brewers trade Burnes they must get pitching in return. I agree with you that the Brewers will be looking for another starter. It just seems to me that if I'm the GM of the other team, I do not want to give up a quality pitcher when I'm looking to add a quality pitcher. It's possible they'd be willing to give up a pitching prospect or maybe a pitcher that is in his last year of a contract, but it is my hope Milwaukee can do better than that. It's just common sense to me to trade Burnes to a team that needs pitching but have surplus position players. Then trade our surplus or Adames if necessary to a team that wants to improve their position players but are willing to trade pitching. Maybe Arnold can pull of some magic with a three-team trade that will accomplish both. Don't get me wrong, I understand your point when you take each trade in a vacuum without knowing what other trade will or will not be made. I just think the Brewers will get better deals if they trade Burnes to fill their position needs. The three of us want what's best for the Brewers so if Burnes is traded, we'll see what happens.
