The Mets get a guy who can be their fifth starter, who the Brewers don't necessarily need. The Brewers get a replacement for Eric Thames and a guy to help their upper minors catching depth.

I think the Brewers would really like Smith but I don't think they'll give up Houser for him. From everything I've seen that was coming from the Brewers front office, Houser is being counted on as an everyday starter. He ended the season strong and since Milwaukee needs starting pitching, I don't think Houser would be part of this trade.
