5I like this idea a lot, but the royals don't have to be involved and probably don't want Cronenworth, maybe if he was a bit better defensively at second. With how bad their second base contributions have been, they may make that stretch though
The Cardinals will not be looking to attach any “negative” value from Contreras to Donovan, especially for a prospect in free fall like Salas.
They need to move money also Salas has upside if they are in a rebuild that's why I added a SP
Neither of those statements are true. Contreras is one of two guaranteed contracts they have, neither of which is for more than $20m annually and neither extending past 2027. Salas would be the Cardinals’ 3rd best C prospect and is not good. He was good (not great) in 2023 but putrid in 2024 and 2025. His age is the only reason he’s anywhere near top 100 status.

Padres would have to move that contract to make this happen royals would love him but wouldn't be any return for padres
