This trade might have made sense before Hurricane Milton, but I can't see the Rays trading for Donovan while also trading one or both of B.Lowe and Y.Diaz (for payroll purposes). Things would change if the Trop could be rendered playable before the ASG, but right now I'm thinking the Rays might not ever play in the Trop again. If that happens, they will probably be looking at $40-50MM payrolls until 2028 when their new stadium opens.

Oooooookay...I hope this is wrong. The ChiSox have taken tanking to a new low and Reinsdorf selling the team is the only thing keeping the commish from intervening. Tampa tanking might cause a stir with the MLB office.

I doubt it, under the circumstances. For one, the Rays don’t have a history of intentionally tanking. For another, they might be out 1/3 of their 2024 revenue each of the next 3 years if they can’t play in the Trop. This isn’t the A’s situation where they are playing in minor league stadiums because of ownership greed/incompetence. This was caused by an act of god. MLB may insist the Rays stay local, even if that results in them taking a bigger hit to revenue than playing in say Nashville or Omaha, but otherwise the Rays will be given a free hand to do as they want to get through the next 3 years.
